Sambo Peter officially assumed office as the new president of the University of Jos Students' Union Government (SUG), following his victory in the recently concluded elections.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Social Science Faculty Hall, Naraguta Campus, saw Peter and other elected executives sworn into office amidst distinguished guests including the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of Students Affairs, ASUU chairman for UNIJOS chapter, representatives from the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) UNIJOS Zone C chapter, lecturers, members of the parliament, and other dignitaries.
Professor Ishaya Tanko, the Vice-Chancellor, addressed the newly inaugurated executives, urging them to prioritize students' interests above personal agendas. Tanko also lauded the Dean of Students Affairs for ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election process. He emphasized prudent management of school resources, particularly in areas like electricity, urging the executives to encourage responsible usage among students. Tanko expressed confidence in the new leadership and called on students to support them for effective governance.

In his inaugural speech, Sambo Peter thanked students for their participation in the elections and appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to address transportation challenges on campus. He also stressed the importance of security consciousness among students.
The Dean of Students Affairs, advised the executives to set aside conflicts and collaborate towards achieving success.

Former Director of socials (D.O.S) Israel Sunday (Social Myles) present at the event refrained from making judgments on the new administration but criticized the past administration, acknowledging failures and hoping for improvements.
"For now I can't say anything as the new administration is just starting we've not seen anything yet but then the last administration of which I am part of it, honestly I will say we have failed the students, but then I just pray this people have the energy and strength to amend some of the mistakes we made"
Matthew John, a 400-level Sociology student, echoed dissatisfaction with the previous administration but expressed optimism in the new leadership's potential to perform better.
"I think the former president didn't do what he supposed to do, the school fee increment, he was supposed to play a major role, I remember when we had a protest at the gate he was not there,
I don't know the new president but base on what I've heard about him I'm sure he will do well”.

The event came to a close with outgoing president Josiah Dakon (Troy) handing over to the newly elected president, emphasizing the challenges ahead and the responsibility of leading students effectively. Dakon reminded the incoming president that the role is more demanding than it appears from the outside.
