Sambo Peter officially assumed office as the new president of the University of Jos Students' Union Government (SUG), following his victory in the recently concluded elections. The inauguration ceremony, held at the Social Science Faculty Hall, Naraguta Campus, saw Peter and other elected executives sworn into office amidst distinguished guests including the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of Students Affairs, ASUU chairman for UNIJOS chapter, representatives from the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) UNIJOS Zone C chapter, lecturers, members of the parliament, and other dignitaries. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Ishaya Tanko, visited the Department of Mass Communication to commission its newly constructed studio and library. The event, held at the Faculty of Social Sciences, saw the presence of   dignitaries from government parastatals, lecturers, senior lecturers, Heads of Departments, and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, among others. Senior lecturers of the Department of  Mass Communication Professor Ishaya Tanko, who received several awards, expressed gratitude to the department for the respect accorded to him. He also acknowledged the presence of the Minister for Sports and praised the current administration for its unwavering support to the university.  Dental students in the university of Jos have also joined in on the protest at the university  gates. While the original protest was aimed at raising awareness about inadequate medical facilities and social amenities in the institution, the dental students also saw this as an oppurtunity to voice their concerns about the non-accreditation of their department. Chanting slogans and holding up signs, the students expressed their frustration and called for urgent action from the university administration to address these issues.

students of the University of Jos have locked down all entrances to the school, preventing access to and from the premises.  The protest, which began early Monday morning, was sparked by the death of two students who reportedly died due to lack of adequate facilities in the school clinic, as well as other challenges such as poor hostel conditions, filled soakaways, and lack of water and electrical stability. Speaking with one of the of protesters who plead anonymity, he said “ why will students pay for all these facilities and yet they are not provided"  One of the student who addressed protesters said the gate will remain locked until their needs are taken into consideration.
